"While in Paris I discovered a native French teacher, Isabelle, who proved to be a great help to me in learning some basic conversational skills. 

As a beginner student, with a lot of grammar but no practical application, Isabelle helped me to put together sentences which would be most useful in everyday situations.  For example , we talked about how to speak to waiters, how to ask for things at the market, how to ask for postal stamps, etc. 

Isabelle is very patient and practical.  She encouraged me to speak to her in French and used those opportunities to help me with pronunciation and incorrect grammar.

She has a good sense of humor and that helps a lot when one feels self-conscious.  In fact, she encouraged me to believe that I could do more than I thought I could.
